Good & Bad Days

There are good days and bad days and its part of the journey.  Occasionally in training and unfortunately sometimes in races you will experience lows.  You need to go through these rough patches in training to learn how to deal with adversity.   It’s part of the process of proving to yourself you can do something you once thought was impossible.  Being willing and able to adapt to different things will help.  You need to access what is going on and try to figure out how to overcome it, if you even can.  It could be a lack of nutrition and you need to eat something, or that maybe you went out too hard and you need to back off the effort.  Whatever it is try to be open minded and remain positive (easier said than done) about the experience.  Practice positive self-talk.  You will benefit from it and need to use it during a race when things get tough or don’t go as planned.  This is a great article from Adrienne Langelier, a local Sports Psychology Consultant, that gives insight into self-talk.  It should guide you in the right direction.  Self-Talk Sampler Article
